    TRENZSEATER is proud to announce for the 8th consecutive year, our interior design director, Ben Lewis, has been short listed for the prestigious International Design & Architecture Awards for his residential interior design work in 2023 by an acclaimed global judging panel.
    This is a remarkable achievement not just to be short listed but to have been recognised year on year for the past 8 years at such a high international level. It is a testament to our passion for interior design and demonstrates our commitment to delivering projects of exceptional quality.

    The International Design & Architecture Awards celebrate the excellence in the interior design and architecture industry on a global scale, recognized by leading designers and architects in the industry as the benchmark in global design. Hosted and featured in leading interior design magazine “design et al”, along with being published in their special
    hard cover book with all the shortlisted entries + winners these awards will receive exposure and recognition on a global scale that will be highly publicized.

    The International Design & Architecture Awards are held in September at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in London, where the sponsors will announce and award the winning entries with their trophies. As part of the judging process, like last year, the public has an opportunity to vote for their favourite entry, there were over 90000 votes last year, so we will be in touch closer the time when voting opens in August this year.

    Turning inspiration into reality

    “Christchurch is full of success stories, such as furniture and interior design store Trenzseater. Metropol editor Lynda Papesch talks to its general manager Ben Lewis about inspiration, and the road to success. The harder you work the luckier you get, and there is no substitute for hard work. That is the creed that Ben Lewis lives by. He co-founded Trenzseater in 2004, chasing his vision to fulfil a niche in the market for tailor-made luxury furniture.

    Today the company has a global profile, and Ben plans to keep it that way for some time to come.

    He is continuously inspired by design, through architecture, interior design and classic furniture design where classic detailing provides a signature style, he explains. “I also enjoy, and am inspired by, fashion, art and antiques. Natural materials [marble, stone] inspire me for their unique, classic qualities, and I enjoy the character you get from solid timbers.”

    Regular visits to international fairs in Europe also provide ongoing inspiration, along with the new designs each of the company’s international suppliers release each year.

    “Being involved with these international brands is a privilege, it is inspiring, and it is also great to have the opportunity to see how a brand on a global scale works.”

    Design is a concept that is always evolving, he believes. “I think it is constantly being improved and developed into something better, which always starts with an original idea. It is important to always be one step ahead of the market so your idea is first to market, we like to pride ourselves as design leaders.”

    New Zealand designers feature regularly on the world stage in various international competitions, from kitchen, bathroom and lighting designers through to interior designers. “New Zealand designers are always very innovative, creative and inspiring,” Ben adds.

    Personally, he is driven to succeed, and motivated to inspire through the industry and interior design.”

    Kiwi interior designers make it big on the world stage

    “Here’s what high-end interior design in New Zealand looks like in 2022.

    These three projects have all made the finals in the London-based Society of British & International Interior Design (SBID) International Design Awards – for house or apartment interiors under £1 million (NZ$1.95 million), although we know at least one was only just under that figure.

    Following on from our story on the six New Zealand kitchens that have made the finals in the same competition, these projects in Queenstown, Auckland and Christchurch show Kiwi designers can be counted among the best in the world.

    Christchurch-based Trenzseater has made the finals for the fifth consecutive year – the company has also been a finalist in the London-based Design et al awards for the past six years.

    Designer Ben Lewis says the current project is a high end central apartment complex in Christchurch. “We had a great client who allowed our design flair and vision to be executed just how we had imagined.

    “The client was after a design which was unique, intriguing and layered. We used a lot of beautiful velvets in the design, exquisite wallpapers from our own collection along with the use of large-scale prints and custom-designed mirrors.””
